All the basic aftercare advice needed to look after the extensions and prolong the life of them is listed below . If you are ever unsure of anything or have any additional questions please don't hesitate to ask :) During your fitting  I will go over the aftercare with you in person , and will also give you an aftercare booklet so you have it all to hand and will never forget what to do !

Washing

With any fusion bonded extensions it is essential that you do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours after the extensions are fitted . This allows time for the glue to set properly . Washing your hair sooner can cause the bonds to soften , become weak , or even fall out :( If you have them fitted using the micro ring method it is absolutely fine to wash them straight away if you wish , just be extra careful not to get any conditioner on the rings or they will slip out easily .

You should wash your hair as least as possible ; once or twice a week is best as the less stress put on the extensions the better , and in turn the less drying through heat the better . When washing it's still important to get in between the extension rows and cleanse your scalp , just ensure all shampoo traces are washed out :) Never rub or twist the hair as this can cause it to tangle . Always pat wet hair gently with a soft towel in a squeezy action . I will give you a list of all recommended shampoos to use on extensions - and the ones to avoid !

Condition & Care

A rinse out reconstructive conditioner is highly recommended to be used on the extension hair . This is a conditioner that works inside the structure of the hair shaft and should be applied once a week if possible . I find the best way of getting it to really work is to towel dry your hair after a shampoo / condition , put your extensions in bunches and comb the mask through the ends . Then leave on for at least an hour and rinse out . As extension hair isn't attached to your scalp it doesn't get the same vitamins and nutrients that your own hair gets and can become dry if a good conditioner isn't used . Avoid applying it to the bonded root areas as any conditioner will gradually soften the bonds and make them slip out .

A leave in conditioner should be used after the hair has been towel dried . This is designed to moisturise and condition natural hair as well as extension hair .

Recommended care products for extensions are any product designed for dry damaged hair that will help moisturise them . These can include serums and hair oils . One of the best products to use is Moroccan Oil , it is a miracle product for extensions !

Brushing

A hair extension brush should always be used with extensions . They are designed to thoroughly brush through natural and extension hair without causing any damage . However please avoid brushing the extensions more than 2-3 times a day as the more you brush the more hair will shed and overbrushing can snag and tear the hair . You will lose strands of hair whilst brushing and it may look like a lot , but bear in mind that everyone loses around 100 hairs everyday naturally ! These loose hairs are just the ones that haven't been caught up in the glue properly and have simply come loose . A wide tooth comb is recommended to comb conditioner through your extensions , but please do it gently !

Styling

As the extension hair is all 100% human hair it can be styled in the exact same way you do you own whether it be straightened , curled or even coloured ! When using straighteners / curling irons please avoid the bonds as you can end up melting and damaging them :( Please make sure you also apply a heat protection spray on the ends before using any heated appliances on the extensions . You can dye hair but do a strand test first as different hair types dye differently e.g. your own hair may not dye the same colour as the extension hair . Never attempt to bleach extensions as the colour won't lift lighter . It is possible and perfectly fine to dye your roots when extensions are in , most of my clients do ! The best way to do this is to dye around the hairline and down the centre parting . If however you wish to dye all of your hair then this is also possible but remember the less stress put on the extensions and the bonds the better . Styling products , hairsprays etc are all fine to use but please keep there use to a minimum and try to use quality rather than cheaper products . Unfortunately I have discovered that cheaper styling products can often dry the extensions out , especially hairsprays ! Never straighten your hair if it has any product on , wash it all out before you do .

 Damage

Do NOT believe all the horror stories you hear !  As long as extensions are properly applied by a trained hairdresser , maintained and removed correctly they will cause no damage to your own hair . Picking , rough brushing and incorrect removal causes the most damage . Some people find that extensions have helped their own hair grow quite a bit over the time they are in and also improved the condition of it . By being as gentle as possible minimises the damage to your own hair .

The glue I use is a Keratin Polymer designed specifically for use with hair and is very easy to remove . When removing fusion bonded extensions a removal solution is sprayed directly on the bond , this simply dissolves the bond , turns it to a powder texture and lets the extension hair slip away freely . Micro ring extensions are removed by unclamping the micro ring leaving them to come straight out :)

I will not be held responsible for any damage caused over the time extensions are in if they are not properly looked after . If extensions do seem to be causing problems please do not hesitate to contact me .

General

Extensions need maintaining and looking after - you cannot have extensions because you think it is an easy way out of doing your own hair , they need looking after ! You have to be willing to spend time on them and have patience to look after them otherwise they will not stay in beautiful condition . At first it may be difficult to sleep on them as your head won't be used to the bonds , but it won't always be like this , after a few days you forget they're even in !

Extensions may also slightly itch your scalp for a few days , this tends to be just above the nape of your neck and around your crown as these are the most sensitive parts . If this is the case please persevere as it is just your head getting used to the weight and the bonds . Some people have no trouble whatsoever but every now and then someone may have a sensitive scalp and it will take a little more adapting to . Do not give up straight away or think the worst , extensions are worth it !

The extension hair will also shed , fusion bonds more than the micro ring extensions . Please do not think the extensions are falling out as it is normal for them to shed , even though it may seem a lot at the time . Most of the time micro ring extensions can be refitted , so if you lose any hold onto them for your maintenance appointments !

At night its best to sleep with your hair in a loose plait , this minimises the chances of knots and maximise the lifespan of the hair . Never ever go to sleep with it down , and always brush any tangles out before plaiting !

Swimming & Holidays

It's perfectly fine to go on holiday and in the pool with your extensions in . Obviously the hotter the country the more care you'll need to put into looking after them ! Its best if you can tie your hair up during the day , and wear a hat to protect the extensions from the sun . Loose plaits and buns are ideal , but never ever scrunch it on top of your mead in a messy bun style as it will knot the extension hair ! Spraying a leave in conditioner in every morning , the same as you apply suncream , will help create a protection barrier . If you go in the pool/sea it's best to keep your hair out the water , or wear a swimming cap if your a serious swimmer . If you do get your hair wet don't panic , just comb it through to make sure no knots have formed ( you can spray leave in conditioner again to help with this ) and wash your hair as soon as possible , giving it a deep conditioning treatment to put in the moisture that the chlorine has stripped out :)
