Hair Extensions & Holidays

For a lot of people August is the main holiday month ! I have been receiving a lot of enquiries recently about going on holiday and hair extensions , the main one being will they be okay in the heat/pool/sea !! I'm not going to lie , going away with extensions fitted isn't totally ideal ! Depending on where it is you are planning on going , obviously the hotter the country the more likely the extensions are to dry out more , shed and take up more 'looking after' time. Myself and many of my clients have have had extensions fitted and managed to go away with them no problem, just please be prepared to put a little extra care into them ! Simple tips such as in the daytime when sunbathing/going in the pool etc please tie the hair up to keep it out the way ! This is the best way to protect the hair and stop it tangling up. A plait or a simply ponytail is the best way to keep it out the way, whatever you do don't scrunch the hair up into a bun piled on top of your head- the hair will knot and you will most likely have to have the extensions removed ! Wearing a hat will also stop the heat of the sun drying the hair and again protect it. If you do get your extensions wet either by going in the pool or the sea this is ok , just make sure as soon as you can wash the hair and give it a good condition , chlorine and sea water will dry the extensions out ! Protect the hair before you go outside if you can, spray a leave in conditioner on the ends, or apply a hair oil or serum. You don't need a lot of product on the hair, just a small amount will do its job and prevents your extensions from looking lank and greasy ! A deep intensive conditioning mask will help revive any hair that is starting to dry out, just apply to towel dried hair after washing, comb through and leave on for at least 15 minutes to allow the product to work its magic :) Remember just to use on the ends of your hair otherwise the bonds will start to break down !

If you don't think you'll be able to manage any of the above then please don't have extensions fitted before you go on holiday, wait until you get back and then have them fitted :) If you don't think you'll be able to cope without extensions on holiday then clip in extensions are perfect for popping in when going out during the evenings and will give you a lot more time to enjoy the sun !
