Over the years I have found that both the Fusion Bonded and Micro Ring methods are the most popular choice for the application of hair extensions , which is why I have chosen to purely concentrate on these two methods . Different hair types , styles and lifestyle factors will all play a part in choosing which method is best for you ; don't worry if your slightly confused by it all as your hair is assessed during the consultation and I can help you make the right decision . The amount of bonds you end up having in your hair will depend on how you want the overall look to be ,  but a half head (typically just used to add volume ) will use around 100 individual extensions , whilst a full thick head will use around 200 individual extensions !   

 FUSION BONDED

The fusion bonded method is the original method of fitting hair extensions and did use to be the most popular until other methods were introduced . Unfortunately it is one of the more time consuming , a full head of extensions can take up to 4 hours to put in , and around the same time to remove ! To fit this method a small portion of your natural hair is sectioned off and the nail glue tip on the extension hair is placed against it and heated through with a heat wand connector . This is then rolled together using the fingers until a smooth bond is made . Then work begins on another strand next to it until the rows are complete :) Fusion Bonding is a permanent technique that can last up to 3/4 months depending on the growth of your natural hair and the correct aftercare having been followed .  It is always advised to get them removed after this period or damage will occur to the natural hair. The extensions however can still be refitted if the hair is in good condition still . With fusion extensions it is always advised not to let the bonds remain wet for a period of time, not to use products containing sulfur (dandruff shampoos) and not to use oil or silicon based products as these will all weaken and damage the bonds.

MICRO RING

The micro ring method hasn't been around as long as the fusion bonded method but it is now the most popular method of fitting that I do ! A small 4mm plastic coated metal ring is looped onto your own hair , the extension ( for micro rings they come in a " I " tip ) is then pushed through the ring which is then clamped shut . There is no glue , sowing or braids involved , it is simply the small micro ring that holds the extension in place . As this method doesn't involve any glue or heat being applied to the hair it is a less damaging way of attaching extensions . However as the micro rings aren't always as secure as the fusion glue ( you'll find they hold better in thicker hair ) they will need regular maintenance appointments at 4-6 week intervals to get the maximum wear from them , and to also help keep your own hair in better condition .  If you stick with the maintenance appointments then you can expect to get more wear from your extensions in the long run . A full head fitting usually take around 2 hours , and removals can be done in less than 1 hour :)

MICRO RING WEFT

This is the newest method to arrive at Star Extensions ! It is very similar to the micro ring method as micro rings are still used to attach the hair , it just uses wefts as opposed to individual extensions . The weft is cut into sections to fit to your scalp , it is then applied and secured using the micro rings along the length of the weft . Depending on how thick you would like the finished result this method can take up to 2 hours to fit . It is a fantastic and quick way of gaining extra length and volume . It is that you maintenance appointments every 3-4 weeks to get the maximum wear from the hair . Is is a cost effective alternative for those on a budget , don't want to commit to more longer term extensions , or for anyone still not 100% sure about whether extensions are right for them or not .
